Golden Prairie Farms is owned by the Hediger Family where we grow wheat on the high plains of eastern Colorado.
Our farm became one of the first certified organic farms in Colorado in 1989. We started farming on 63 acres, and now dedicate several thousand acres to growing organic hard red winter wheat. This wheat is dedicated for wheatgrass because of interested customers like you. We are proud to say we have grown with the industry; our farming techniques are state of the art and our concerns with the organic industry and sustainable agriculture are our number one priority.
Organic Methods
Golden Prairie Farms is a strong supporter of all farmers and agriculture. However, we have chosen to farm, process, and sell only 100% certified organic grains.
While we understand the need for conventionally grown product we have chosen to specialize in organic farming. Golden Prairie Farms has chosen to use methods including beneficial insect releases, crop rotation, and the use of natural sources of fertility like compost and cover crops. This means that there are no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides used on our farm.
